Bishop Jones served as associate rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, and as chaplain and rector of Christ Church, Oberlin, Ohio, as assistant to the Bishop of Ohio and as rector of St. James Episcopal Church, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, before his election as Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, where he served as diocesan bishop from 1977-1997.
