The artificial assignment of this population is strengthened by its constant size across the time points in the presence of ATc, whereas all other populations shift under these conditions (Fig. 3E).
Other genes, such as those for CK18 or TTR, are also expressed at several stages of hepatic development in vitro, and without the analysis of additional markers the correct assignment of the cell population to a specific developmental stage is not possible.
Fissiparous planarians do not develop a copulatory apparatus, which precludes the assignment of these populations to any species since this structure provides most of the defining characters for species description in planarians.
Structure analyses indicate high assignment of the northernmost populations (A G, V, purple color) from those to the south (I U, W Y, blue; Figure 3A).
However, two major taxonomic inconsistencies emerged: a) the assignment of the T. oreades population at Monga NP to T. mongaensis; b) the separation of the southern populations of T. speciosissima from the rest of the species.
For solutions with the same TSA, when the size of the evacuation population exceeds the capacity of the selected shelters, the TWET caused by the assignment of excess population to a large shelter area might be longer than the one with a small TSA.
It must be emphasized that the detection of these clusters is not the result of uneven geographic sampling, as illustrated by the assignment of two populations from the South Middle Atlas subregion, to the genetic cluster of the High Atlas populations.
The assignment of populations to the sub-species O. o. oenanthe and O. o. libanotica remains to some extent arbitrary, because the geographical limits of both forms have not been well studied.
Therefore we also used a method implemented in the software STRUCTURAMA v.1.0 [ 99], where both the assignment of individuals to populations and the number of populations are treated as random variables following a Dirichlet process prior [ 100].
YHRD is structured by the assignment of each submitted population sample to a set of populations sharing a common linguistic, demographic, genetic or geographic background (metapopulations).
The geographic distribution, mitochondrial lineage assignment and phenotype of the populations involved in the here described examples of introgression is given as supplementary information [see Additional file 2].
