The average membership proportions of each accession to the different genetic groups and the geographic distribution of the majority population assignments of accessions were plotted using R v2.13 and the R package maps [ 52].
Clusters defined by the GMYC analysis were then assigned an STU I.D. based on the geographic location and species assignment of the accessions they contained.
If this approach is used on the Crocus data set, many of the branch lengths are extremely short, making species assignment of new accessions spurious at best (figure 2).
The results obtained in the present study have confirmed the accuracy of previous assignment of endophyte accessions to distinct known taxonomic groups based on SSR polymorphism, along with the definition of several putative novel taxa [ 9].
The assignment of the 566 accessions into 44 genetically distinct groups was then used to infer the support for the 89 species into which these accessions had been classified.
Sub-groups generated by Structure runs using these K values are shown in Figure 4A and 4F, together with taxonomic assignment, and domestication-related trait parameters of accessions.
This means they are reliant on a series of tasks such as the accessioning (assignment of a laboratory identification number) of new specimens, specimen preparation, sample distribution, test analysis and result verification.
The present results reveal that in more than 90% of the cases, the assignment of tags to Uniprot-linked accessions is congruent with the annotation of longer ESTs from other legumes.
