These findings have potential important clinical implications, as PA assessment using self-reports, has been advocated for use in health care, for risk assessment as well as for individual PA prescription/counselling [ 17, 18].
Strengths of the study included detailed adherence assessment using self-report and pharmacy claim measures in accordance with best-practices [ 33], collection of blood samples using routine phlebotomy, analysis of samples conducted in an independent laboratory on a reliable platform, effective quality control, and the use of well-trained local research staff.
However, the assessments for adherence using self reports may make patients feel comfortable in telling the truth and may probably facilitate the identification of poor adherence [ 50, 51], and thus, it is a reliable and cost-effective method.
It is interesting to notice that summative assessment, when using self-awards, could not discriminate low or high achievers and the question remains whether it could discourage collaborative efforts or direct it only toward grades.
