The word “asp” is correct and usable in written English
You can use it as a noun to refer to a venomous snake of the family Elapidae found in Africa, Asia and Europe, or to refer to a Macintosh software utility program developed by Microsoft. For example: “We encountered an asp along our hike this morning, and had to take a detour.”
