The phrase "as improved were" is not standard in written English and may cause confusion.
It could be used in a context where you are discussing improvements that have been made, but the structure is awkward.
Example: "The results of the experiment, as improved were, showed significant progress over the previous trials."
Alternatives: "as they were improved" or "as had been improved".
