On a large scale, these ground breaks mostly follow the previously mapped active fault traces of the Hinagu and Futagawa fault zones identified as significant faulted landforms (e.g., Research Group for Active Faults of Japan 1991; Nakata and Imaizumi 2002) (Fig. 1).
This structure has been interpreted through seismic studies as a faulted block inclined against a graben structure.
