The finding of poorer physical, role and social functioning scores and fatigue, nausea/vomiting, pain, dyspnea and appetite loss symptom scores in previously treated patients as compared to newly diagnosed patients is not surprising given that previously treated patients have more advanced disease and are well into their course of illness as compared to newly diagnosed patients.
To begin with, many antibiotics are prescribed for a relatively short course, anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks, as compared to a course of years or decades for anti-hypertensive or cholesterol medications.
