The objective of ADAA is to develop software that enables scientific control of the progress of an experiment, e.g. monitoring in terms of analysed data as opposed to measured data, one obvious aim being to maximize the scientific output from a given period of beam time.
OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) statistical models do not adequately match the analysed data, as none of the variables follows a normal distribution and additionally, they do not take into account the hierarchical nature of the data (patients grouped in lists of primary care doctors, those working in health centres and centres clustered in health districts).

Syndromic surveillance performs best if fine-tuned to the characteristics of the analysed data source as shown for the influenza syndromic surveillance system in Spain, for example [ 28].
The cross-border comparability of the definitions used by the different syndromic surveillance systems is to be considered weak due to differences in the analysed data sources as seen also during the A/H1N1 pandemic.
However, our analysis should be interpreted with restraint, as not every medical incident is appropriately documented and, further, this study is not comprehensive, as only two airlines contributed the analysed data.
The analysed data is presented as counts and proportions by occupational risk category, and absolute differences between proportions in the two incidents with no statistical test undertaken to determine the significance of the difference between the observed proportions.
