One of the strongest arguments in favor of the TLCd as a separate entity is the proportion of GABAergic neurons it contains.
As a separate estimate of the proportion of lineage splits accompanied by a shift in resource use, we indentified all terminal sister-species pairs across the MCC tree (Fig. 4), and then separated these 35 pairs into those in which both species have identical or overlapping niches, and into those in which the species have different niches.
Of the children who received pertussis vaccination, the proportion who received pneumococcal vaccine (given as a separate injection) on the same date was 97.1 % for the 1st dose, 96.5 % for the 2nd dose, and 96.2 % for the 3rd dose.
Although a considerable proportion of these probably had previously undiscovered DM, these were included as a separate group in our analyses.
As a separate confirmation method, SourceTracker, a Bayesian source-prediction tool34, was used to estimate proportions of source similarity (Supplementary Table S7) in dental calculus and dentin based on a set of modern reference microbial communities sequenced from human dental plaque35,36, human hand swabs37, and top soil samples from Oklahoma and Alaska38 (Fig. 3c).
For each of these variables a small proportion of values was unknown; these values were included in the analyses as a separate category.
