Rat carotid arteries (1, 7, and 14 days after angioplasty, or naive) were snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen in OCT embedding medium (Tissue Tek, Sakura Finetek).
The common carotid artery bulb was identified and the segments of the common carotid arteries 1 to 2 cm proximal to the bulb region were scanned.
The deep veins are "venae comitantes," that is, companion veins that follow like duplicates the arteries, 1(b), 2(d), and 3(b)).
