They did not observe evidence for regular lattice structure in the arrangement of either orientation preference domains or pinwheel locations.
However, there is no obvious reason why prefrontal cortex, which deals with information that is presumably nonspatial in nature, should require a repeated, punctate arrangement of either function or anatomy.
