Many TV factories run 24-7 around-the-clock operationsoso that fixed capital costs are spread over a larger number of TV sets.
And while major shippers like Mattel, Wal-Mart and Payless Shoe Source have around-the-clock operations, many smaller companies and warehouses don't.
"These are 24/7 businesses, 365 days a year," said John J. Gilbert, chief operating officer for Rudin Management, which owns and manages the building, using the current term for around-the-clock operations.
It is about 110 miles north of the Port of Los Angeles and 277 miles south of the Port of Oakland, and not adjacent to a residential community, where homeowners might complain about around-the-clock operations, as they do in the so-called Inland Empire, east of Los Angeles.
"These spaces are three to five times more energy intensive than office areas due to energy-intensive equipment, around-the-clock operations, 100 percent outside-air requirements, and high airflow rates," Dilliott says.
