We find no clear associations between ARF levels and prognostic parameters or outcome, although the presence of cytoplasmic p14ARF as opposed to its absence suggests a better outcome (Fig. 3b).
Remarkably, the inhibitory effect on regeneration by ARF ARF was stronger than with the heat shock promoter, probably reflecting ongoing surveillance of regenerative signals by the ARF promoter in contrast to fluctuating ARF levels obtained with intermittent heat shock induction of a short half-life protein.

The low levels of p14ARF in primary HDFs precluded detection by immunoblotting but we did not observe a consistent change in ARF transcript levels following knockdown of PRC1 components (see below).
Interestingly, CDKN2A and ARF expression levels were not correlated either but rather reciprocal.
