The phrase "areas of the map" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to specific sections or regions depicted on a map.
Example: "The areas of the map that show the mountainous regions are particularly detailed."
Alternatives: "sections of the map" or "regions of the map".
Previously-explored areas of the map are represented by light-blue nodes, and unexplored nodes are dark blue.
