The phrase "areas of background" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to refer to different fields or aspects of knowledge or experience that someone has, often in a professional or academic context.
Example: "In her application, she highlighted her areas of background in environmental science and policy."
Alternatives: "fields of expertise" or "domains of knowledge".
