The phrase "area of lava" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a specific location or region where lava is present, often in geological or volcanic contexts.
Example: "The scientists studied the area of lava that had flowed from the volcano during the last eruption."
Alternatives: "lava zone" or "lava field".
El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar, a biosphere reserve in Sonora on the U.S. border, is an area of lava fields, cinder cones, and volcanic craters.
The Deccan Traps ("traps" comes from the Swedish word for stairs) comprise a vast area of lava flows, much larger than the state of Texas and in some places more than two miles thick, on the Indian subcontinent.
