The phrase "area of abnormality" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in contexts such as medical reports, psychological assessments, or any analysis where deviations from the norm are being discussed.
Example: "The MRI revealed an area of abnormality in the patient's brain that requires further investigation."
Alternatives: "region of concern" or "zone of irregularity".
There is also uncertainty as to the most effective and efficient management of women at colposcopy when an area of abnormality is seen on the cervix — immediate treatment or biopsy and selective recall for treatment if the biopsy result suggests this is necessary.
