Predefined areas of a background image can be selected to graphically represent pain on a body schematic.
In the same way, in any given place, geometry has existed previously in the interaction area as a background of a collision event.
By 2030, under a high emission scenario [Standardized Reference Emission Scenarios (SRES); see Appendix 1, A2 scenario], the area experiencing a background of 60 ppb was projected to expand significantly, especially in Europe and North America.
Two foreshocks of magnitude 7.3 and 6.0 took place 2 days earlier within 100 km north of the M 9.0 mainshock with similar focal mechanisms, and many major aftershocks occurred in the following days in an area of persistent background seismicity extending several hundred kilometers.

Defining as in the text the false-negative rate to be the probability of failing to detect a true raised risk (i.e., 1 – sensitivity), and the false-positive rate to be the probability of false detection of a background area as corresponding to a raised risk (i.e., 1 – specificity), the three loss functions used are as follows: with each error being equally weighted.
The three-sigma statistical threshold criteria was determined from an area of presumed normal background tissue by multiplying the standard deviation of the normal background count rate in an area of presumed normal background tissue by a factor of three, and then adding that calculated number to the mean value of the normal background count rate.
This allows for local variations in intensities to be grouped by region, providing a localized statistical model for each area of the background scene.
The FRAP analysis included the determination of the average fluorescence intensity of a region of interest containing an unbleached granule as well as an area of background fluorescence.
