Tessellator is the engine for rendering the ellipsoid by approximation, using a mesh of regular shapes, commonly rectangles or triangles.
The (relative) number of nodes with degree within this interval is represented in Fig. 7 by the area of the (left) rectangle above that interval.
A triangle is constructed that has half the area of the left rectangle.
These two triangles are shown to be congruent, proving this square has the same area as the left rectangle.
