The phrase "are slightly shallower" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when comparing the depth of two or more objects or areas, indicating that one is not as deep as the other.
Example: "The new swimming pool designs are slightly shallower than the previous models, making them more suitable for children."
Alternatives: "are a bit less deep" or "are somewhat more shallow".
The depths of the former tend to be slightly shallower than those of the latter.
