The phrase "are engaged differently" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe how different individuals or groups participate or interact in various ways.
Example: "In this study, participants are engaged differently based on their prior experience and knowledge of the subject matter."
Alternatives: "are involved in different ways" or "participate in distinct manners."
