The phrase "are better recognized" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing the improved acknowledgment or identification of something compared to a previous state.
Example: "In recent years, these species are better recognized for their ecological importance."
Alternatives: "are more widely acknowledged" or "are more commonly identified."
