The Repository supports that mandate by providing a vehicle for researchers to access curated and well-maintained archival data sets and biospecimens and by assisting requestors seeking to understand these data and specimens.
However in most cases, including ours, only a limited number of samples with sufficient follow-up is available which limits our ability to obtain a similar distribution of histopathology in the pilot and independent data set, and also forces us to use archival samples instead of new ones.
In our data set, we do not observe any significant association between storage time of the archival tumor tissue and the correlation between frozen and FFPET measurements on either 3SEQ or HEEBO (both p>0.35).
The SNP subset could then be investigated within samples from a wider geographical range and in archival material, in order to establish a more accurate assessment of the mixed stock assignment and population evolutionary hypotheses extracted from the current data set.

In the biggest ever such research programme, funded by the Department of Health policy research programme and published in the British Medical Journal Quality and Safety, we used observations, interviews, archival data, surveys and national data sets to study acute, mental health, ambulance and primary care across the whole of England.
