Vessels were cut open and mounted flat using hardset aqueous medium (Vector Labs, Peterborough, UK).
Glass coverslips were mounted onto slides with Vector aqueous anti-fade VECTASHIELD fluorescence mounting medium (Vector Laboratories) and sealed with nail polish.
Comparison of vector plots of aqueous phase flow after 1 s, 1000 years, and 1 million years show little visual or quantitative difference after 1000 years (Fig. 5).
