You need to be polite, to learn a little bit about them and remember the things they've told you on previous visits, to be friendly and approachable, and to make sure they feel comfortable coming to your office time after time.
Well, a doorstop leaves your room open for flatmate visits, especially important during those early weeks when you want to be seen as approachable and eager to make new friends.
You should be able to smile and light up a room, have approachable body language to make people want to talk to you, and be able to hold up a conversation with absolutely anyone, from your nine-year-old cousin to your history teacher.
