The phrase "applying for courses" is correct and usable in written English.
You can use it when referring to the process of submitting applications to enroll in educational courses or programs.
Example: "I am currently applying for courses at several universities to further my education."
Alternatives: "enrolling in courses" or "submitting course applications".
The Ucas website recommends students speak to a careers adviser if they are thinking about applying for courses that share no common themes.
