Replication of these striking genetic patterns across two distinct reef locations (∼20 km apart) is consistent with local adaptation to distinct habitats followed by non-random mating, as the genetic structure was observed in putative neutral loci.
As MNase preferentially cuts the linker DNA between nucleosomes the presence of a protected region of sites (that are cut in the deproteinized DNA control), flanked by two hypersensitive sites ~150 bp apart, is consistent with the placement of a translationally positioned nucleosome.
In both our experiments, N2pc amplitude was reduced when the two items were close together as opposed to far apart which is consistent with the idea that the reduced N2pc amplitude reflects spatially-mediated competition between the two items.
