Molecular models of anthesis timing have been developed over the last 10 years as authors build on previously published results (Dubcovsky et al., 2006 b ; Yan et al., 2006; Hemming et al., 2008; Greenup et al., 2009; Sasani et al., 2009; Shimada et al., 2009; Distelfeld and Dubcovsky, 2010; Trevaskis, 2010; Li et al., 2011).
In brief, plots were kept at a 2 3 cm water level during the 1st week after transplantation, anthesis, and the timing for N top-dressing.
Treating cereals as a dual-purpose crop (grazing and grain production) can modify the timing of anthesis, but which among the main determinants of the timing of anthesis – namely leaf number, the phyllochron and the length of the flag leaf emergence to anthesis interval – are affected is unclear.
After heading, the plants were inspected regularly to record the timing of anthesis and grain development.
We confirmed that related plants tended to have similar timing of anthesis (e.g. K = 0.91, P = 0.052) but failed to detect evidence for a positive relationship between phylogenetic distance and AMF distance (e.g. Fig. 2) as done in another study (Veresoglou and Rillig 2014).
However, if termination timing occurs well past anthesis (i.e., too late), the winter cereal cover crops might similarly produce viable seed that can become a weed the following year, and late rolling will delay soybean planting, possibly reducing yield potential.

At each season, a wheat, barley and triticale high yielding cultivar was evaluated at three temperature regimes: control, and two timings of heating before anthesis.
