The root of these anomalies lies in the electronic structure of the water molecule.
Prominent low-velocity anomalies exist beneath the Miyazaki Plain and along the Beppu-Shimabara Graben, and high-velocity anomalies lie below the Nagasaki Peninsula and Chikushi Mountains.
