This approach allows the selection of core substrings that are among the most frequent k-mers in the provided set of reads, and the improved model for bucket assignment leads to more coherent buckets and better downstream compression.
Unlike in bacteria, the eukaryotic ribosome relies on extensive protein-protein interactions (Ben-Shem et al., 2011; Anger et al., 2013), and the improved model presented here illustrates many of the detailed chemical interactions that stabilize the mammalian ribosome.
