Our data showed that Ti was bound with three oxygen or nitrogen atoms on DNA in its first shell, and the second shell was two phosphorous atoms, proving that nano-anatase TiO2 could be bound with the oxygen or phosphorous atoms of nucleotide, and nitrogen atoms of base pairs in DNA.
The minimum in the first shell (In O) and the second shell (In–In) bond distances coincides with the maximum in mobility and can be a contributing factor to a small effective mass.

Each has 86 electrons arranged as in the atoms of the noble gas radon (which precedes actinium by three columns in the table), with three more electrons that may be positioned in the 6d and 7s orbitals (the seventh shell is outermost), and with additional electrons packing into inside orbitals.
The conventional explanation of this distinction takes note of the fact that, in period-3 elements, the valence shell has n = 3, and this is the first shell in which d orbitals are available.
