The fact that both antibodies stained proteins in the same cells in the tissue sections (Fig. 2) and recognised the same protein bands in Western blotting of ALI secretions and BAL fluid, lend further support of our suggestion that they are recognising human LPLUNC1 specifically.
In order to generate recombinant proteins with natural conformation, it is most favourable to use expression hosts of the same biological kingdom, since they likely produce the same post-translational modifications and recognise the same signals for synthesis, processing, and secretion as the organism, which the sequence was originally derived from.
