Our results are consistent with that of Kelleher and Barbash (2013) who performed linear regression analysis for a number of different genomic features, including the transposition rate of active TEs, and concluded that there are limits to the optimization of host defense mechanisms.
No previous approaches, however, provide an adequate statistical framework for or global analysis on the relative impact of different genomic feature layers to gene expression phenotypes.
However, to the best of our knowledge, there has not been any comprehensive analysis on the relative contribution of different genomic data to gene expression phenotypes, nor an adequate statistical approach to address this issue of elucidating gene expression phenotypes with more than two types of genomic data at hand.
