The program BOTTLENECK version 1.2.02 [ 45] was used to test for the presence of a recent population bottleneck for P. downsi by analysing within-population heterozygosity and allele frequency using the constructed dataset of individuals sampled from all islands.
For a mean difference in anxiety scores of 1, a sample size of 355 would result in a 95% confidence interval of 0.75 to 1.25 (that is a margin of error of 0.25 points on the anxiety score), taking into account the benefits of analysing within-person differences.
For within-groups analyses, within-subjects t-tests were employed.
Next, we analysed within-group changes over time.
