With an increasing feed-in from vRES with marginal costs close to zero, the merit order effect gains in strength, resulting in lower wholesale electricity prices and a decreasing load-factor of dispatchable power plants (such as gas power plants but also coal power plants [92]); this leads to concerns that dispatchable capacities may find it difficult to refinance investment costs (see [87]).
