Results from all batch experiments provides evidence for the increased sequestration of OC up to a Ca concentration of 60 mM Ca (Fig. 4).
This in turn leads to a lowering of the level of intracellular cAMP, increased sequestration of labelled cAMP by the anti-cAMP antibody and thus a decrease in the level of free β-gal labelled cAMP.
However, further spectral analysis is needed to pair with the evidence found using ATR-FTIR to continue to probe the mechanism(s) controlling the increased sequestration of OC in the presence of Ca. Our results suggest that Ca enhances the extent of OC sorption to 2-line ferrihydrite from pH 4 9, especially at pH ≥ 7.
The decrease in root-to-shoot flux of Na+ is related to increased gene expression of the HKT transporter responsible for retrieval of Na+ from the transpiration stream and the increased sequestration of Na+ in the root cortical cells.

In a series of papers, Simon and his co-workers (Schindler et al, 1996; Altan et al, 1998; Simon 1999; Rajagopal and Simon, 2003) have documented expression of multidrug-resistance transporters on endosomal membranes, and have shown increased sequestration of drugs in these compartments in drug-resistant cells.
However, it is not fully understood if increased sequestration of Na+ into the vacuole is achieved by increased activity of V-H+-ATPase or V-H+-PPase, or both, increased activity of the Na+/H+ antiporter and/or other mechanisms like, for example, reduced activity of the vacuolar fast- and slow-activating channels (Bonales-Alatorre et al. 2013).
Whilst increasing sequestration of trace metals via sulfidisation is likely to occur over the long-term, the current abundance of reactive Fe near the sediment water interface favours a dynamic environment with respect to metals in the tidally inundated areas.
Only in the case of a further increased sequestration rate as compared to the base line (ΔC3 > ΔC0), debits are accounted for.
