The phrase "an increased fixation" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing a heightened level of attention or concentration on a particular subject or object.
Example: "The study revealed that participants exhibited an increased fixation on the central image during the experiment."
Alternatives: "a heightened focus" or "an intensified attention".
Interestingly, analyzing the horizontal fixation disparity showed a tendency for an increased fixation disparity for close reading (F1,18 = 3.43, p = 0.08) and a clear tendency for an overall larger fixation disparity for dyslexic children (F1,18 = 3.68, p = 0.07), while these effects did not interact (F-value <1).
It is possible that rigidity (as obsessive-compulsive disorder or as trait) may contribute to an increased fixation of the ED symptoms and, thereby, reduced diagnostic instability.
