The phrase "an increase in grades" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing improvements in academic performance or assessment results.
Example: "The new study program has led to an increase in grades among students this semester."
Alternatives: "a rise in grades" or "an improvement in grades."
Albert and Beatty (2014) compared the course performance between student grades 1 year apart to see if the flipped classroom resulted in an increase in grades.
