The phrase "amounts of about" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when estimating quantities or values that are not exact but are close to a certain figure.
Example: "The project requires amounts of about 500 units to meet the demand."
Alternatives: "quantities of approximately" or "figures of around".
The trace elements (microminerals or trace minerals), required in much smaller amounts of about 15 milligrams per day or less, include iron, zinc, copper, manganese, iodine (iodide), selenium, fluoride, molybdenum, chromium, and cobalt (as part of the vitamin B12 molecule).
