In our experiments, both LucR and LucF mRNAs were always present in equal amounts, indicating that the mRNA is bicistronic (Fig. 3B).
Interestingly, morphometric analysis of EM data (Figure S1A and see below) indicated that PrPC is found in clathrin-coated pits in both FRT-PrPC and FRT-PrPC/cav-1 cells in similar amounts indicating that transfection of cav-1 does not alter the plasma membrane distribution of PrPC.
More importantly, these same calcium phosphate complexes or granulations can also be found in normal untreated serum, albeit at much lower amounts, indicating that they may represent physiological products of the normal regulatory pathways that are used to maintain calcium and apatite homeostasis and that somehow become amplified as a result of calcium and/or apatite loading.
Additional stainings, which were however only possible in a few MS patients (due to limited CSF amounts), indicated that the majority of CSF B cells belong to the CD19+CD27+ memory B cell subset, while only a minority are naïve CD19+CD27− B cells (data not shown).
