An experimental setup is designed to enable the curing of CPB samples under different stresses, filling rates, initial temperatures and drainage conditions as well as the monitoring of the changes in capillary pressure, temperature, amount of drained water and electrical conductivity in the CPB samples during curing.
The amount of drained blood was recorded at 48 hrs.
The amount of drained CSF necessary to maintain the set ICP threshold of 20 mmHg was recorded every 24 h.
This is consistent with previously reports that change in ventricular volume does not correlate with outcome of iNPH treatment [ 23] or the amount of drained CSF [ 24, 25].
There was a strong correlation between the number of resected LNs, the total amount of drained fluid (r = 0.45; P = 0.006), and the duration of the suction drain (r = 0.41; P = 0.015).
Moreover, the number of resected lymph nodes correlated with the total amount of drained fluid (P = 0.006), the duration of the drain (P = 0.015), and the risk for the development of lymphedema after 3 months (P = 0.016).
Regarding our entire study population, we found a significant correlation between the number of resected LNs and the total amount of drained fluid, resulting in a significant effect on the duration of wound drainage.
After surgery, the total amount of drained fluid was 802 ± 546 mL in group 1 and 713 ± 382 mL in group 2. Despite the tendency, the difference was not significant (P = 0.58).
Patient demographic data, history of BPH, prostate size estimated by DRE, type of AUR (spontaneous or precipitated), amount of drained volume, management of AUR (type and duration of catheterization, TWOC, use of α1-blockers before TWOC, hospitalization rate, immediate or elective surgery) and adverse events observed during the catheterization period were recorded.
Blood loss was significantly lower in the MIS Group, both in terms of hemoglobin grams and in the amount of drained blood but the difference in the number of drains in each group could produce a bias in the results of our study.
It is noteworthy that the patient with the highest volume of drained CSF also had the greatest reduction in ventricle size (patient ELD_3 in Table 3), but there was no clear association between ventricle volume change and the amount of drained CSF or symptomatic response.
