Ambient air is polluted with a mixture of pulmonary toxicants.
Strikingly, germline mutation rates were highest among offspring from the group exposed to polluted ambient air at the urban-industrial site (1.9-2.0 1.9-2.0frequency of mutations from paternal origin).
Collectively, these results indicate that the combination of exposures as encountered in polluted ambient air are considerably more injurious to the lung than would be anticipated from previous studies employing single exposures.
The general population is unavoidably exposed to PAH through polluted ambient air from a variety of sources such as motor vehicles and trucks, coal-fired power plants, residential heating, and environmental tobacco smoke, as well as through contaminated food including charcoal-grilled and smoked meat [ 1– 4].
In reality, both the household energy and air pollution communities have a stake in finding clean cooking fuels and clean cookstoves, which not only protect people in and around the households of the poor, who currently rely on polluting solid fuels, but also need to be part of national strategies to control ambient pollutions for the protection of all.
Based on this linkage/analysis effort, we documented that children with asthma living in more highly polluted areas as assessed by ambient air monitoring data and measures of traffic near homes experienced worse asthma morbidity than those living in less polluted areas.
However, the relevance of these experimental studies is uncertain in that the concentrations of pollutants in animal and human laboratory studies were 10 1,000 times higher than the average ambient levels observed in even relatively highly polluted locations such as Hong Kong.

Ulaanbaatar (UB), Mongolia is one of the most air polluted capital cities in the world, with ambient sulfide dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (PM 10 and PM2.5 levels >23 times World Health Organization (WHO) standards in winter [ 25].
Our results suggest that ambient temperature has a greater impact on daily mortality on chronically polluted areas, especially if these areas are socially deprived.
