The phrase "alternative verb" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing different verbs that can replace a specific verb in a sentence or context.
Example: "In this sentence, you can use an alternative verb like 'assist' instead of 'help' for a more formal tone."
Alternatives: "substitute verb" or "replacement verb".
