The phrase "also tested a few" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing experiments, trials, or evaluations that include additional items or subjects beyond the main focus.
Example: "In addition to the main subjects, we also tested a few alternative methods to compare their effectiveness."
Alternatives: "additionally examined a few" or "further evaluated a few".
