The phrase "alimony for a" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing financial support that one spouse may be required to pay to another after a divorce or separation.
Example: "After the divorce, she was entitled to alimony for a period of five years to help her transition financially."
Alternatives: "spousal support for a" or "financial maintenance for a".
Spouses receive limited duration alimony or maintenance for a set period when there is an economic need established, but the length of the marriage is not long enough to warrant a permanent award.
