By 1990, DE 71 was extended back south along its original alignment to again end at US 13 south of Townsend.
The resulting alignments were checked manually to identify the best hits considering score and identity values as well as a nearly complete alignment from start to end of the query.
Overlapping alignments are similar to global alignments, i.e., alignments spanning from end to end for two maps of roughly equal length, but to search for overlap alignment gaps after the ends of either map are not penalized.
This can be attributed to two factors: First, we are computing local alignments, so we can always choose to end the alignment subtrees in the nodes u, v. Second, there are many different labels found at the edges (or nodes) of a fragmentation tree.

SR 190 turns east away from the wash at the turnoff to Dante's View, and soon leaves the park, after which it follows a mostly straight alignment to its end at State Route 127 at Death Valley Junction.
