There has been a rapid rise in commercial knowledge transfers from universities to practitioners or university industry technology transfer (UITT), through licensing agreements, research joint ventures, and start-ups.
These might include career path incentives such as continuing professional development, higher training, scholarships, bonding agreements, research opportunities and flexible working, especially for women to encourage staff retention and motivation.
Another important aspect of implementation has been to ensure that any legal and other collaborative agreements are compatible with the policy by reviewing them with this in mind (for example, material transfer agreements, data transfer/access agreements, research collaboration agreements).
These relationships are formalized through memoranda of understanding, material transfer agreements, cooperative research and development agreements, and through research grants (U.S. EPA 2014b).
