The standard range of laboratory culture temperatures for C. elegans is 15−25° (Brenner 1974), and we found that an increase of only 1.5° above this range causes the SC central region proteins to form aggregates instead of loading onto chromosomes, indicating that SC assembly is exquisitely sensitive to temperature in this organism.
