But Rush says long-term changes would be slow enough that EyeVerify could "age" its template to adjust.
First, the reference images were nonlinearly registered to an age appropriate template using the ANTS package [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/advants/files/ANTS/, Avants et al., 2011].
The final reference model is the "age-specific" template.
They found that normalization with the age-specific template led to significantly different tissue distributions than normalization with the adult template.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HCs use age specific templates, divided into child (0 to 4 years, 5 to 14 years) and adult (15 to 54 years, 55+ years) groupings.
Yoon et al. (2009) compared the tissue distributions obtained from normalizing an 8-year-old child's brain with an age-specific template (i.e., a template constructed based on 8-year-old children) and with an adult template.
Information regarding the outcome of the iterative process for templates construction is shown in Supplemental Fig. 1, which illustrates the change in age-specific template fits with each successive iteration.
While we can presently only speculate on such associations, the availability of infant MRIs and age appropriate templates will allow more precise localization of NIRS channels with underlying anatomy.
In study 1, face stimuli were manipulated on sexual dimorphism using age-matched templates, while in study 2 young face stimuli were manipulated with older templates and older face stimuli were manipulated using young templates.
